Older Drivers are "Getting In Gear"

- Designing an intervention program for motor vehicle operators 60-years-old and older
- Developing a series of activities to assess aging drivers
- Promoting existing safety programs to older adult drivers
Strategies The Tampa Bay Area Agency on Aging, created the Getting In Gear older adult driver intervention program. The program was designed by professional researchers who were experienced in creating programs with a philosophy and mission that would demonstrate, sensitivity to the unique needs of the older adult driver. The new program was publicized through various media as a public health message to help senior citizens remain safe as long as possible. Program activities were designed to be easily accessible to older adults, and to be scheduled in the same manner as their annual physical health screening. Activities included; Gross Impairment Screening; defensive driving course; case management services; and mobility management. Results - Case Management Services: 1,733
