Goals

  • Reduce underage drinking
  • Reduce underage drinking and driving

Strategies

To address serious concerns about minor consumption and its associated problems Region I developed the Sticker Shock Project. This project was designed to act as a platform for dealing with underage drinking, minor’s drinking and driving, or riding with someone who has been drinking. However unfortunate and irresponsible it is evident that older friends, siblings, or even parents of minors play a key role in minor consumption by purchasing alcohol for minors.

In an effort to eliminate this practice stickers were designed and printed locally on bright vellum paper. The sticker message included a description of the penalties to an adult who purchases alcohol for anyone under 21. These stickers were then distributed to local liquor stores who agreed to put the stickers on their cases of beer. They launched the project in conjunction with Prom and Graduation parties and additional stickers were dispersed through out the summer.

Results

  • Fewer arrests in the month of May
  • Continued effort on the part of the liquor establishments to curb underage possession of alcohol
