Holiday Safety Messages
Posted: Apr 28, 2003
| Project Characteristics | Program Areas | | Community education | | PI&E holidays, winter, water & community safety | | Targeted Audience | Jurisdiction | | General public | | Regional | | Goals - Develop community partnerships.
- Heightened public awareness during holiday seasons
Strategies The Jamestown Safe Communities Task Force joined forces with several agencies during the holiday season to record and air seasonal safety messages for the local radio station. Safety issues addressed included winter safety, holiday safety, safe walking after dark, bicycle safety, occupant protection, child passenger safety, water safety, hypothermia, and rules of the road for both land and water driving. As appropriate (e.g., winter holidays, prom, graduation, Fourth of July), business cards with safety messages and seasonal pictures are provided to off-sale retailers for distribution to consumers. Results - Partnerships were developed with KSJB Radio, the local fire and police departments, SafeKids, US Coast Guard and US Army Corps of Engineers.
- 30-second radio spots were developed and aired throughout the holiday and winter season, as well as the boating season.
- An off-shoot of the project resulted in the US Coast Guard donating 15 life jackets to distribute to children attending water safety sessions.
