Project Goals

  • Increase awareness of the impact of drinking and driving
  • Increase awareness of the impact of safety belt use
  • Develop partnerships and encourage community participation

Strategies and Activities

The city of Minot designated parkland for the project. This project was developed to plant a tree as a memorial for each crash fatality in North Dakota.

All local elementary school students participated. Minot Public Schools, Community Action, Teen Court, Magic City Horticulture students, Minot Park District, SADD reps, Job Corps reps and students, and coalition members were actively involved in the project. A plaque was carved for the memorial. The Mayor broke ground, and Margie Zietz shared the Mock Crash video and provided incentive packets to students.

Information was provided to Minot Public Schools, Teen Court, Community Action, Safe Communities coalition, Magic City Horticulture students and Job Corps students at the Memory Tree planting, and during Red Ribbon Week activities.
