Profile on Eldon Mehrer, Southwest Coalition of Safe Communities
Posted: Dec 20, 2004
I have been with the coalition for four years in Williston and four and a half years in Dickinson. I became aware of and interested in the coalition through my work with the Highway Patrol. I had been active in the Highway Patrol's safety education efforts when I lived in Williston and Dickinson and worked closely with the coalition.
My particular areas of interest include occupant protection, DUI education and enforcement, and underage drinking. I like the fact that the coalition is an aggressive, active group with a good core group of members. It is somewhat challenging to get the entire membership involved and keeping membership up. It seems that the same people always do the work, but this can't be helped, I don't think.
I became prepared for the coalition because, while working the Highway Patrol, we addressed many of the same areas of concern. Through 12 years with the Highway Patrol I have seen many accidents involving alcohol abuse, and witnessed how it can damage and alter lives. This organization helps to enhance and improve our efforts in traffic safety.
My education includes a two-year degree in Criminal Justice and a four-year degree in University Studies. ![[ end of article ]](http://www.safecommunities.org/images/endarticle.gif)
