After becoming aware of the coalition through Community Action, I joined in Dickinson, but have since moved to Bismarck where I have been a member for three to four years.
When I joined the coalition I expected to be an active participant, which has been true by holding both Vice-President and President positions. I continually expect the program and myself to create strong membership and educate the public more on the coalition. My particular areas of interest include juveniles and drug and alcohol issues. The thing I like best about coalition membership is the commitment to developing programs for the youth. On the other hand, the lack of participation and attendance of certain members is somewhat discouraging.
Experience that has contributed to my position in the coalition includes juvenile work since 1995, past experience with the coalition in Dickinson, and office experience with the tobacco coalition. It was Community Action who educated me and got me interested in the coalition.
