I have worked with law enforcement and served in the capacity of a police officer for twenty years.

Margie Zietz, Minot PoliceDuring my tenure I have addressed many safety issues that have an impact on the department and my assignments. Two years ago I was assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit, and since then have attended many civic and social activities. As a Crime Prevention Officer my duties include participation on the Mayor's Council for a Safe Community Coalition. I was very pleased by the community effort and other work ethics of the coalition. Consequently, I decided to become a more active participant, and utilize my law enforcement background to effectively benefit the coalition. I developed a "working role" on the coalition and presently my involvement as an educator in the schools as well as being an advisor on the coalition continue to progress. My partnership has proven to be mutually beneficial relationship in accomplishing work goals and in promoting community involvement and activities. My training and experience in law enforcement is an asset to the coalition in suggesting ideas and implementing work related functions.

The Coalition encounters changes and challenges and has accepted and met them with eagerness and willingness to work hard at accomplishing the goals of the organization. I expect, and predict, the Coalition will continue to work together to meet and serve the needs of the community.

Initially when I joined the coalition I expected to serve in an advisory role representing the Minot Police Department but learned early on that the coalition was a very productive community organization which the members as a whole could serve a great benefit to each other. Each meeting served as a new and inspiring experience. It became apparent, "safety" issues are a concern, and they affect our community more than the average citizen realizes. While I have many areas of interest involving our coalition activities, my favorite topics include promoting bicycle and child safety events, gun safety, impaired driving, and traffic safety issues. I look forward to continuing provide support to the coalition board and maintaining an active role.[ end of article ]
