On December 12, 2002, Darryl Hall was recognized by the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) for his commitment to the Three Affiliated Tribes Traffic Safety Program. A special award was presented to him during a regular council meeting in the Three Affiliated Tribes meeting chambers.

Hall has served as the coordinator of Safe Communities for more than six years for the Fort Berthold Reservation. He has been instrumental in coordinating numerous projects and programs for Three Tribes members, from youth to adults. Carol Thurn is the ND Traffic Safety Program Manager. She read a letter, sent by NDDOT Director David A. Sprynczynatyk during the award presentation.

Hall (lower left), Tribal Chairman, Three Affiliated Tribes.

Sprynczynatyk wrote: "You have a keen sense of what works within your culture, and have the expertise to get projects accomplished. To get others to do what needs to be done is an exceptional trait of a coordinator. Your projects, from Safety Village to putting up crosses on roadways over Memorial Day, have been very successful. During your tenure, the Fort Berthold Reservation has seen a dramatic reduction in alcohol-related crashes and traffic-related fatalities. Your unconventional programming has made a significant difference for Fort Berthold and the Three Affiliated Tribes."

Upon receiving his award, Hall said it was through the assistance of special people and organizations that he has been able to accomplish all he has done with his Traffic Safety Program. Hall recognized Delvin Driver and the Fort Berthold Unity Riders, Leo Cummings, and the Fort Berthold Police Department.

Sprynczynatyk ended his letter to Hall by saying, "You and your coalition have been instrumental in bringing traffic safety to the forefront on the Fort Berthold Reservation. Thank you for your hard work and dedication."
