Meet Becky Byzweski - From Her Own Words

Becky was awarded her present position as coordinator for Safe Communities five years ago when the previous coordinator resigned. She was attending school at the time and completed her Business Administration Degree in Management in May 2002.
Over the years, she has held positions at local banks, and began in the front office at Community Action in March of 1989. Becky moved to Prevention and Traffic Safety seven years ago and became Safe Communities coordinator two years later. She is very passionate about underage drinking and buckling up, especially children in car seats or booster seats. She most desires to make a difference in these two areas.
Becky sees her job as having several perks and challenges. She considers seeing youth and their parents buckled up properly a job perk. She also enjoys watching youth go through graduation or prom without using alcohol as a crutch to celebrate. And a third perk is watching youth survive these activities or other holidays with no injuries or deaths. Becky finds that trying to change attitudes and behaviors of youth and adult populations about drinking and driving, and buckling up is very challenging. Becky is also challenged by trying to convince men in pickups to wear their safety belts (so North Dakota's safety belt usage rates rise) and trying to get her monthly report done on time. She states that she usually has time, but tends to put it off.
Becky has been married to the same man, Randy, for 27 years. They have two daughters: Robyn, 25, who is a nurse at Altru Hospital and a student at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, and Renee, 22, who has been married to Calvin Rehbein for three years. Calvin recently completed a four-year tour of duty in the United States Army and he and Renee moved back from Colorado Springs, Colorado. They are both enrolled as students at Dickinson State University and, along with Becky and Randy, anxiously await the arrival of their first child in October.
Becky's hobbies include reading, cross-stitching, sewing, scrap-booking, camping and fishing. She hopes to have more time for her hobbies now that she has finished her college degree. She plans to begin quilting as a new hobby.
Becky dreams of winning the lottery and owning a cabin or home on the lake. She expects to live a clean, long and happy life with her family nearby - particularly her children and grandchildren. And Becky's greatest personal perk: chocolate, especially with caramel and nuts.
Thanks for all your hard work, Becky.
