Designated Driver Program is one of the program highlihts in May 2002.
Sixty-five referrals from Cass County District Court, Fargo Municipal Court, West Fargo Municipal Court, and Center attended the Victim Impact Panel held May 13, 2002. The Alcohol Committee began developing a uniform Designated Driver Program at their May 28, 2002, meeting. The committee will conduct a telephone survey of liquor establishments to determine what type of Designated Driver Program, if any, the establishments currently have in place and what components they think are important for such a program. During May, 134 people attended server training conducted at Fargo Cass Public Health and at the Holiday Inn. The hosts donated a conference room, projector screen, TV, VCR and PowerPoint projector. Fargo Police Department provided officers to instruct the server training courses. Century Council, NDDOT and Miller Brewing Company provided free materials.
The Occupant Safety Committee completed an assessment outlining strengths and weaknesses at their May 2002, meeting. From the assessment, the committee evaluated, planned and set goals for committee growth. Assistance was given to Fargo-Moorhead SafeKids for a car seat check and for a Fargo-Moorhead SafeKids Day at West Acres Mall. The Coalition gave away bike helmets, bike safety information, bike safety incentives, and assisted with a child passenger safety booth where children were measured and weighed to determine the appropriate safety device. Child passenger safety information was also distributed. Law Enforcement was supported through the "Click It or Ticket" May Mobilization campaign. "Click It or Ticket" sign locations were secured by Coalition members and ads were run on Clear Channel radio stations. The high school safety belt campaigns continued at Oak Grove and Shanley High Schools.
The Executive Committee reviewed the entire self-assessment as a group at their May, 2002, meeting. Input, suggestions, comments, concerns, etc. were offered.
