To increase the use of safety belts, this coalition worked with the Highway Patrol to encourage use of the "Saved By The Belt Award" in Divide County and provided incentive items to the Williams County Sheriff's Office for distribution.

To reduce DUI in Williams County, a meeting was held with District Judges regarding the Victim Impact Panel and revisions needed to enhance the program for everyone involved. The Fatal Vision Goggles and information was provided to the Mercy Medical Center Recovery Group. Efforts continued to locate and compile a database of victims and offenders.

High school safety belt campaigns include both the Williston High School and Divide County High School. Posters were put up at the high schools and student committees met to decide campaign administration. At Williston High School, notices were placed in the parent newsletter to inform them of the campaign, encourage students to buckle up, and outline laws concerning safety belt use among teenagers. Key chains with the WHS Buckle Up logo were distributed to each student. Lunchtime safety belt checks were conducted throughout the month, with incentives given to students buckled up. Incentives included food coupons, gas coupons, pencils, key chains and ice scrapers. A DVD player, posters, statistics and incentives for the campaign were arranged in the display case in the front foyer of the high school. The Divide County High School FCCLA committee met to plan their incentive campaign, promotions and fliers. Education was provided regarding the surveys they will conduct. Incentives were ordered and handed out to announce the campaign. Posters, fliers and announcements were prepared and distributed at a student assembly. The baseline survey has been conducted at the school, but results are not yet tallied.[end of article]
