3D month and occupant protection are the highlights this month in Williston.
Occupant Protection: The coordinator met with the SADD student committee at the Williston High School to set dates and events for a High School Safety Belt campaign. It was decided to postpone the kickoff of the campaign until right before the Christmas break. Students wanted it to be a reminder to drive safely and buckle up during the holidays. Students designed flyers and planned out the first two months of the campaign. Students selected the incentives they want and also some of the activities. The coordinator also met with the Divide County FCCLA group about implementing a High School Safety Belt campaign.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol assisted with training held at Williams County Social Services. The training was provided to help Social Services employees better understand the transportation needs of children. Topics covered included Children's Car seats, transportation of children in emergency situations, and a local low-cost car seat program. This partnership will be great for both parties. The coordinator took advantage of an opportunity to ride along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The local NBC affiliate broadcasted a news story regarding transportation of children in pickups and cargo areas.
The coordinator attended a Chamber of Commerce Sunnyside Breakfast and provided information for car seat training at District Highway Patrol training. Provisions were made for car seat installations for a number of safety seats. Safety belt and underage drinking information was given to parents at the Williston High School Parent-Teacher Conferences. Publicity events for 3D month (drinking, driving, drugs) were arranged.
