The coordinator has been working with White Shield and Twin Buttes to complete applications for multi-use trails.

These communities have no sidewalks in place and their community centers are ¾ of a mile away from their living areas. There is a lot of foot traffic whenever there is an event going on. It is not safe to walk on the road, especially at night, so something needs to be done.

With Figure 4 Ranch, developed a system for scheduled safety inspections of vehicles. An employee other than the one typically driving it will inspect vehicles each week. The vehicle will be inspected to assure that all lights work and it is in a safe condition to operate.

Elders making comments that the Memorial Day crosses go against tradition were referred to the elders originally granting permission for the placement of the crosses. Traditionally, when a person from the tribe passes on their name is not mentioned and no attention is called to them. Permission to place the crosses was granted as it was deemed to be for the good of all those who are still alive to reflect on the passing of those lost to alcohol and driving. Remembering these people may bring this type of behavior to an end. This demonstrated one way the tribe's culture has changed since the dam was built.[end of article]
