On average, a pedestrian is killed in a motor vehicle crash every 108 minutes, and one is injured every 8 minutes. (NHTSA 2005 Traffic Safety Facts Overview)
The Safe Seats Program will provide parents with the skills and knowledge to more safely use child car seats. This program can also provide a low cost car seat.
At least 80 percent of child car seats are used incorrectly without the parents realizing it. Parents can get help from Safe Seats. Diana Read at Community Action 572-8191 or Lorri Slocum at Upper Missouri District Health Unit 774-6401 can determine which car seat a child needs for their individual weight and age. They will also teach parents how to use the seat in the safest possible way.
Safe Seats has low cost car seats available along with education. These seats are for infants, toddlers and older children up to 80 pounds.
If you, your co-workers or clients would like to feel more confident that you are doing all you can to keep your child safe in a vehicle, please contact Diana or Lorri.
