Mayor's Council Holds Press Conference
Posted: May 31, 2004

Join the Minot Police Department, Ward County Sheriff, ND Highway Patrol, Burlington Police Department, Surrey Police Department, Minot Air Force Base and the Mayor's Council for a Safe Community as they announce the official kick-off of the National May Mobilization of Click It or Ticket with a press conference held at the City Hall Chambers, Tuesday, May 25th, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.
Coast to coast, this national effort will strive to save lives and drive down financial costs to society caused by motor vehicle crashes. Ward County now exceeds the state average in its seat belt usage rate with over 70% of our population buckling up! We aim to reach 80% by the end of this effort.
Over ten million dollars will be spent nationally on media and education efforts to alert the public that law enforcement will no longer issue warnings for seat belt violations. The message is clear: Click It or TICKET! This press conference will provide information to the public, specifically what can be expected regarding law enforcement action, dates of overtime enforcement, etc. City & County officials will be invited to attend.
Because failure to buckle up contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety related behavior and the economic losses associated with these fatalities are staggering, local law enforcement are teaming up to actively enforce seat belt and child passenger safety laws.
Feel free to call Kristen at 839-0488 with any questions! ![[ end of article ]](http://www.safecommunities.org/images/endarticle.gif)
