The Southwest Coalition of Safe Communities a program of Community Action Partnership received three smaller grants for their Safe Communities Coalition. Funding for the program was made possible from the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
A worksite seat belt campaign grant for $1000.00 is being conducted with the Badlands Region Montana-Dakota Utilities in Dickinson. The Safe Communities staff will educate employees on current seat belt laws, provide pledge forms for the campaign and give employees an opportunity to ride the "Convincer"- a crash simulator.
The second grant received was $4000.00 to work with the Junior High and High School students in Dickinson to get them to buckle up on a consistent basis. The law requires anyone under the age of 18 to be buckled up at all times. Various student groups and teachers from the schools will be working with the Safe Communities staff during the campaign.
The final grant received was for $3,650.00 with Dickinson State University. Safe Communities staff will be working with Dr. George McClellan and his staff and students will be implementing several projects to address risky or adverse alcohol consumption on the campus.
