The winter holidays are among the deadliest times of the year because of impaired driving; thus December has been named National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month. Each year thousands of organizations plan impaired driving activities and events to stress the following:
- Don't Drink & Drive - Ever.
- Plan ahead. Designate a driver before you party.
- Take the keys - don't let friends drive drunk.
- Buckle up. A seat belt is your best defense against a drunk driver.
Seventy-three percent of the passenger vehicle occupants who were in a fatal crash in 2002 and were restrained survived; of those who were not restrained, only 43 percent survived. Ninety-two people in North Dakota died in the last 11 months in automobile crashes, 38 percent due to drunk or drugged driving. Let's all work together to save lives-Do Buckle, Don't Booze.
