Minot Plans High Visibility Enforcement Of Seat Belt Laws

All area law enforcement agencies will be stepping up enforcement of the state's seat belt and child restraint laws during the Labor Day holiday and following week.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol, Ward County Sheriffs Department, Minot Police, Burlington Police, Surrey Police and Minot Air Force Base will participate with high visibility enforcement of occupant protection laws.

This enforcement effort is due to the high numbers of traffic-related injuries that would be prevented by wearing seat belts. A second focus of the Labor Day campaign will be impaired driving. The public needs to know that the best defense against drunk drivers is a seat belt. The goal of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign is to reach a seat belt usage rate of 80%. Minot now exceeds the state average in its usage rate with 65% of our population buckling up!

Local law enforcement strive to make North Dakota roads as safe as possible, not only during holiday seasons, but everyday--saving lives & reducing injuries for those persons involved in motor vehicle crashes. The single most effective way to do this is the use of seat belts and proper installation and use of child restraint systems in vehicles. "Click It or Ticket"-- it is the law.[ end of article ]
