Virginia Svenningsen, Sheyenne Valley Safe Communities

February 26, 2009, 12:30 pm

Virginia Svenningsen is the Director of the Abused Persons Outreach Center in Valley City. She has 12 years experience working with victims and providing them with a safe haven through a variety of services. Ms. Svenningsen has been a member of the Sheyenne Valley Safe Communities coalition for approximately one and a half years. She immediately decided to join the coalition after her first meeting. The safety issues addressed through the coalition are important to her and the work she accomplishes in her community.

When joining the coalition she expected to become a part of group of dedicated community leaders who supported each other and addressed safety issues. She strongly believes that collaboration is the key to developing a safe place to live and making a difference in a community. Ms. Svenningsen serves on the Prevention education committee, lending her expertise and knowledge wherever it is needed. She hopes to continue to work with her fellow coalition members toward sustainability. As a coalition member, she has enjoyed meeting and working with so many dedicated members who believe in what they are doing. Through this combined dedication and effort, she anticipates creating a plan to take on the challenges of obtaining funding. In her closing remarks Virginia Svenningsen said, “It makes me feel good that we have Kasey; she has great ideas and is such a hard worker.”
