NHTSA Case Studies on Strategic Evaluation State Program - In 2002, NHTSA undertook a new approach that focused strategically on reducing alcohol-related crashes, injuries and deaths in States with especially high numbers and/or rates of alcohol-related fatalities. The agency identified 13 States to participate in the Strategic Evaluation State (SES) initiative. In 2005, NHTSA invited two additional States to participate. This report, "Strategic Evaluation States Initiative - Case Studies of Alaska, Georgia and West Virginia," provides case studies of three States that participated in this program and had positive results. The three States featured are Alaska, Georgia and West Virginia. Download complete report here.

NHTSA Report to Reduce Impaired Driving February 27, 2009, 1:05 pm
NHTSA: The Effectiveness of Seven Publicized Enforcement Demonstration Programs to Reduce Impaired Driving: Georgia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, and Texas Between 2000 and 2003, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funded seven alcohol demonstration projects designed to reduce impaired driving through well-publicized and highly visible enforcement. The projects were conducted in seven States: Georgia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, and Michigan. This report describes the program evaluations conducted in all seven States. In addition, teachers, counselors, and other community stakeholders can request access to this website which includes ideas to integrate this website into activities with early adolescents. U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Public Affairs: Nation's Top Vehicle Safety Official Urges 15-Passenger Van Users to Drive with Caution this Summer. New research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found June through August to be the deadliest time of year for 15-passenger van occupants, due to rollover crashes. Statistics show that 31 percent of fatal rollovers involving 15-passenger vans occur during the busy summer travel months. To view the report click here.
