Seat Belts Saved Lives

A real "saved by the harness" story that should make all of us take notice of the real requirements for young kids (Head Start students, in this case) to be buckled up on school buses.  Investigators say the reason these children were able to walk away from the crash was because of their 5 point harnesses they were wearing on the bus.  PIRE has produced essential knowledge about the problems and prevention of some of society's most serious public health threats, including underage drinking, drug abuse, impaired driving, teen risk behaviors, unintentional injuries, and neighborhood violence.  PIRE's newly redeveloped website, http://www.pire.org/, features the PIRE Resource Finder, www.PIRE.org/finder, a repository of original PIRE research, and program materials.  The PIRE Spotlight and Newsroom help interpret the important work of PIRE researchers. The website also presents PIRE research guides and other PIRE-related websites on public health problems and solutions.

This website is a ground-breaking tool that combines information from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System with Google Maps to give a visual representation of traffic safety across the entire nation.   With this system, you can enter an address and view the roads that have the highest number of traffic fatalities in a specified area.  You can also view dynamically generated maps that show how public policy has been implemented to improve transportation safety by region.  Hopefully, this site brings both increased safety and awareness to transportation policy makers and private citizens. Click here to visit website.
