According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol 2008 Fatal Traffic Crash Summary:

  • There were a total of 80 passenger vehicle fatalities, 2 ATV fatalities, 7 pedestrian fatalities, one bicycle fatality and 13 motorcycle fatalities.
  • There were a total of 38 rollover crashes in which 13 were pickups, 12 were passenger vehicles, 8 were SUV's, 3 were vans and 2 were trucks. Of those 38 single vehicle rollover crashes there were 40 fatalities. Of those 40 fatalities 36 of them were wearing no seat belt and 32 were ejected or partially ejected.
  • As a result of the 97 fatal crashes that occurred in 2008, 103 lives were lost; 49% of those fatalities were alcohol related, 74% of the passenger vehicle fatalities were unbelted, and of the 13 motorcycle fatalities, 62% were not wearing a helmet.
