» "Click It Or Ticket" with Donny Schatz

Donny Schatz is a “World of Outlaws” champion sprint car driver who grew up in Minot, ND, and now calls Fargo, ND his home. The Safe Communities Coordinators of ND’s Ward and Cass Counties developed a plan to collaborate with Schatz in an effort to reach 18 to 44 year old males in those counties with the “buckle-up” message.

Northern Valley Safe Communities partners with River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks to get the "buckle up" message across. A "Winners Buckle Up" poster was developed that boasted the photo of a well-known local young racer and his car.

Safe Communities coalition members, friends, and parents prepared questions that would be answered in the format of Dear Wendy Wellness. Each week, information was given on car seat distribution and car seat checks along with local, state and national information.

During Child Passenger Safety Month in February of 2006, Stan Pucklich Chevrolet and Bill Barth Ford teamed up with the Region 7 Safe & Drug Free Communities Coalition to promote child passenger safety by providing new car safety seats and education to customers free of charge.

Safety belt usage rate in Grand Forks, North Dakota and East Grand Forks, Minnesota was less than average. Therefore coalition member brainstormed and planned to reward county employees for safety belt usage.
