Our neighbors to the north have been working hard to get the Safe Communities in their Country "on the map". The Safe Communities program in Dufferin County Ontario, Ca

nada, has erected 12 new signs proclaiming the fact that this county is proud to be part of a Safe Community. The signs have been placed on every route that enters Dufferin County.
Safe Communities of the Hill Country (comprising Dufferin County and other areas) was the driving force behind the signage. The coalition members decided that people should see how proud they are to be a Safe Community.
The coalition made a presentation to County Council showing what it means to be a Safe Community, along with all other Safe Communities, nationally and internationally. The message they wanted to get across was, "we should be proud and be recognized for being part of this". The County Council, agreeing wholeheartedly, unanimously passed the motion to erect the signage. Safe Communities of the Hill Country hopes to have more signs put up in other areas in its jurisdiction soon.
