Goals

  • To extend the anti-DUI message beyond the scene of a crash
  • To provide students (and others) with an accurate depiction of what happens as a long-term result of impaired driving.

Strategies

Using scenes of an actual Mock DUI for the opening, our video picks up where the Mock DUI leaves off, following a critically injured female through the emergency room, intensive care, physical rehabilitation and ultimately into a nursing home as a quadriplegic.  The video also notes the impact her injuries have on her friends and loved ones.  The DUI offender is followed through the arrest, booking process, into jail, and through the judicial system where the offender is sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence.  The video closes, showing what the circumstances are months after the crash.  A visit is made to the family of the DUI fatality and gain some understanding of the long-term grief and suffering they continue to endure.

The video is divided into 5 short segments to accommodate the busy school systems.  This method of delivery allows the impaired driving message to be spread out over an extended period.  The video can be used as a follow-up to a Mock DUI or as a stand-alone program.

Results

  • This video has been extremely well received throughout the state and across the country by students, parents, educators, and traffic safety professionals.  It has been adopted into many existing programs in both the public and private sector for younger and older audiences.
