Students are going public with their commitment to traffic safety.
National Teen Driver Safety Week
October 15-20, 2007, is the first annual National Teen Driver Safety Week, bringing the issue of teen driving and the prevention of teen crashes and injuries to the forefront. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for young people in the United States.
Central Campus is an active participant in this effort to reduce crashes among young drivers, working directly with students, parents and caregivers to develop tools and systems proven to keep teens safer on the roads. Campaign messages are (1) Parents are key to teens’ success in learning to drive safely and should make driving part of everyday conversation and invest time in teens’ driving experience; and (2) Teens don’t have time for distractions and must take driving seriously, pay attention to the road and limit distractions such as number of passengers, cell phones and fatigue.
Students at Central Campus are not only making specific pledges to help prevent crashes, but are going public with their commitment to traffic safety. On Tuesday, October 16, at 10:30 a.m., a “Share the Drive Pledge Wall” will be unveiled at Central Campus and students will provide testimony to local media regarding their efforts.
The “Share the Drive” campaign, targeting teens and parents, will be followed directly by Red Ribbon Week (an annual movement toward a drug-free America). Students and faculty at Central Campus are proud to blend “Share the Drive” efforts with Red Ribbon week activities and will host a “Blackout” event representing traffic fatalities among young adults.
Local media are invited to learn about what these dedicated students and faculty at Central Campus are doing to make our community a better place!
