Goals
- To provide the public with more information during peak mobilizations and crackdowns.
- To answer any questions that the public may have regarding safety belts or alcohol concerns.
- To provide information on the locations of car seat distribution and car seat checks.
Strategies
The Rolette County Public Health Nurse found that writing a Wendy Wellness section in the weekly newspaper took a lot of her time. She asked associates of the Rolette County Public Health to each volunteer some time to write this article.
The Region III Safe Communities decided to take the month of February due to this being Child Passenger Safety Month. This opportunity prompted the project.
Safe Communities coalition members, friends, and parents prepared questions that would be answered in the format of Dear Wendy Wellness. Each week, information was given on car seat distribution and car seat checks along with local, state and national information.
Results
- The articles were well received by the community.
- The Turtle Mountain Star covers a circulation area of 3,600 people weekly.
- The decision was made to write more articles during the year. These times would cover various safe communities’ goals such as alcohol and safety belts.
